Integrative Analysis #3 The purpose of the integrative analysis assignments in this course are to extend your critical thinking abilities within the topics that we have covered as part of this course and to fulfill the University’s Tier-II writing requirements for management-related majors and minors. Each integrative assignment is intended to be openended to push you to think through the issues that managers and organizations face when attempting to address potential issues that may emerge in the work environment. In the second half of this course, we have discussed (or will have) a wide range of topics related to leadership.
For Integrative Analysis #3, you will first read the article title “In Praise of the Incomplete Leader” by Ancona, et al. (2007). Using the four elements discussed in their framework of leadership capabilities, apply your critical thinking skills to address the following prompt: Consider three levels of ‘managers’ within organizations: (1) frontline managers (i.e., lowest level, responsible for managing entry-level employees; e.g., office manager) (2) middle managers (i.e., the bridge between lower organizational units and top management; e.g., department head) (3) top management (i.e., CEOs, senior VPs; e.g., dean, provost, and university president). Discuss importance of the four elements in Ancona et al.’s (2007) framework for each of these positions and rank order which ones are most important for each level.
