In proposing a model for evidence-based practice in social work, Gilgun (2005) describes four cornerstones, the interplay of which affect our work with clients: 1) what we know from research and theory; 2) what we and other professionals have learned from our clients, or practice wisdom, which also includes professional values; 3) what we, as social workers, have learned from personal experience; and 4) what clients bring to practice situations.

In a brief explanation  describe the resources you will use to help you develop and support the cornerstones of your professional self. How will you establish appropriate client boundaries? What steps can you take to reduce your risk for burnout? And, who are the trusted professionals you can turn to when you need to ask for help?.
